The benefits of CLA membership are numerous and increasing every day. During the pandemic we recognized our members’ need for connection and launched online communities—there’s one for every Section plus a few open to any member. We began Zoom “coffee chats” which have since morphed into CLA-wide evening gatherings called “Coffee, Cocktails and Conversation”. The California Lawyers Association was sad to hear of the passing of former California Supreme Court Associate Justice Cruz Reynoso on May 7, at the age of 90. The Honorable Justice Reynoso was a tireless advocate for Latinx people impacted by discrimination. He was appointed vice-chair of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights by President Bill Clinton and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2000 for his work on social justice issues. Read more

Over 2,200 immigrant residents and citizens of Japanese ancestry from 13 Latin American countries were imprisoned in US concentration camps, with over 800 people deported to Japan for hostage exchanges.
