In May, we celebrate mothers to honor their sacrifices and the love that they have for their children. While the celebration of motherhood can be traced back to ancient Greeks and Romans, who held festivals to honor mother goddesses, Ann Reeves Jarvis’s work, along with several other notable women, prior to and during the Civil War era, helped make the celebration of mothers thrive in the United States. Anna Jarvis sought to celebrate her mother, Ann Reeves, who organized women’s groups to promote friendship and health at a memorial service on May 12, 1907. As a result of this memorial service, the celebration of mothers became an official United States holiday in 1914. Read more

The California Lawyers Association is pleased to offer tuition scholarships for the Solo & Small Firm Summit on June 16-17, 2022. These scholarships are designed to attract participants who have never attended or would traditionally be unable to attend the Solo & Small Firm Summit. CLA encourages law students, newly-licensed attorneys, first time attendees, or practitioners whose financial or professional circumstances would otherwise preclude attendance, to take advantage of this exciting opportunity. CLA held its Fourth Annual Legislative Day on April 6, 2022. It was a well-attended event with over 120 participants. The event began with the presentation of CLA’s Legislator of the Year Award to Senator Thomas J. Umberg. CLA CEO and Executive Director Oyango Snell presented the award and expressed CLA’s deep gratitude to Senator Umberg for his tremendous public service and tireless work on legislation that is integral to the daily practice of CLA members and improves the lives of all Californians.
