The Labor and Employment Law Section of the California Lawyers Association, and the California Lawyers Foundation are committed to fostering the career growth of persons of color, women, members of the LGBTQ+ community, people with disabilities, and members of other underrepresented groups who are interested in practicing labor and employment law in areas that support and promote the goal of diversity in the labor and employment law field. We will be awarding scholarships to diverse law students for Summer 2023, each in an amount up to $8,000. The purpose of the scholarships is to provide funding to diverse law students to engage in legal endeavors in an employment or labor related field that are non-compensated or undercompensated.

    Personal Statement

    Please submit a short statement of interest that addresses the following:

    1. the nature of the work you will be doing this summer;

    2. why this work is important and who it will impact;

    3. what work you plan on doing with your law degree; and

    4. how your background and/or experiences would help us meet our goal of increasing the diversity within the labor and employment bar.

    Your statement will be evaluated on whether it:

    • states your intent and ability to succeed through the Diversity Scholarship and its goals;

    • addresses your plans for the future;

    • details a timeframe for achieving your goals; and

    • is logically written, flows smoothly through the subject matter, and is free of misspellings and/or grammatical errors.
