Justice Kelli Evans has come a long way from public housing in Colorado to the California Supreme Court, and CLR is excited to share this interview giving insight into her remarkable career. This interview was originally conducted in March 2023 as a fireside chat at the 43rd annual gala of the Bay Area Lawyers for Individual Freedom (BALIF), the oldest LGBTQ+ bar association in the country The interview was conducted by Jeffrey Kosbie, Treasurer of BALIF. The transcript below has been edited for print.
JEFFREY KOSBIE: We have Supreme Court Justice Kelli Evans here to speak with us tonight. It is my honor, my pleasure to introduce Justice Evans. Justice Evans has been a trailblazer throughout her career.
JUSTICE EVANS: This is a homecoming for me. I was on the BALIF board as a baby attorney, back in the late ’90s. I’ve covered a lot of ground since then and today is my two-month anniversary on the California Supreme Court And I am so happy to be with you tonight Thank you to the incredible performers.
