Membership FAQ
I used to be a member and want to join again. What steps do I need to take?
If you have an existing account on our website, sign into your account and follow these steps:
- Click the Login link on https://calawyers.org/ to login to your account.
- In the top right corner, hover over “My Account” and click on “My Profile”
- On the left hand side, click on “Memberships” and then “Join CLA”
- Follow the prompts and you’ll be all set.
Should I upgrade to an All-Access plan?
If you want to join five (5) or more sections, the All-Access Plan will save you money and give you access to everything CLA has to offer – including digital access to ALL section publications!
I’m a law student. Which offering will work best for me?
As a law student, you are eligible for a free membership and can join up to three Sections for free (the Standard membership). Choose the Law Students plan.
Does CLA offer membership discounts?
Discounts are available for government and non-profit attorneys. See the appropriate plans above.
Attorneys employed by an IOLTA-funded organization (such as legal aid and pro bono organizations) are eligible for a Complimentary Standard Tier Membership with CLA. This membership comes with one section of your choice. To sign up, please email info@calawyers.org for assistance.
Does CLA offer complimentary membership to judges and judicial officers?
Yes, only with sign-ups directly on our website. However, if you would like to pay for your membership, there will be an option to do so or if you want to donate your membership dues to our Foundation.
Can I add a Section if I currently have an Introduction membership?
No. To join an additional Section, the Introductory membership must be canceled and replaced with a Standard membership that includes the additional Section of your choice.
I became a lawyer in September 2023. Does this mean that I qualify for the New Lawyers membership until the end of 2026 or at least September of 2026?
The New Lawyer membership starts from the year you are barred, with the only exception being if you were barred in October, November, or December of that year.
If I sign up on the CLA site, will the sections appear on my next State Bar fee statement?
Yes. Sections you join via the CLA website will be reflected on your next State Bar fee statement, with the exception of the All-Access Plan.
How does the All-Access Plan appear on the fee statement?
The All-Access Plan is managed exclusively through CLA. It will not appear on your State Bar fee statement.
- Auto-Renewal: If you pay by credit card, you can opt into auto-pay to maintain your plan annually.
- Manual Renewal: If you do not choose auto-charge, you will need to re-select and purchase the plan manually each year.
If I am already a member of several sections and switch to All-Access, do I get a refund?
Yes, but not automatically. If you paid for individual sections before switching to All-Access, you must contact CLA to request your refund.
