Week in Legal London Program Adds Dublin for 2026!

For the past 38 years, the California Lawyers Association has hosted the Week in Legal London program. Over the years, we have been fortunate enough to have London friends and hosts who welcome us into their courtrooms and chambers: from the Lord (and now Lady) Chief Justice, to the President of the Supreme Court, to the Recorder of London. 

Every other year, we bring a delegation of lawyers to London with the goal of experiencing both the similarities and the differences between our two jurisdictions. The larger group is divided into subgroups that are small enough to sit in courtrooms and observe court proceedings. We have co-hosted “moots” with the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple. We have handpicked California lawyers to shadow a local lawyer in what we call “Barrister-for-the-Day” and coordinate with local chambers to match our lawyers with their barristers. We have made good friends in each trip—including judges who have invited our group to the Crown Courts in St. Albans, Oxford, and Cambridge for court observations. Often some of our lawyers are invited to sit on the bench with the Crown Court judge. And we have been so lucky as to have befriended Lord James Wallace, who graciously hosts our closing dinner in the Peers Dining Room of the House of Lords in the Palace of Westminster. In London, we offer a guest program track for spouses/significant others and we pride ourselves on offering unique experiences—more than just a regular tourist visit or shopping day. 

In the 2022 and 2024 programs, we included an add-on option of a visit to Edinburgh to see the Scottish court system up close and personal. We are in the process of making arrangements for such a program in 2026, but this time to visit Dublin and meet there with Irish judges and barristers.
