Contest Rules

<< Back to 2023 CLA Wellness Walking Challenge

These rules apply to the 2023 Walk Challenge (“Contest”) conducted by the California Lawyers Association (“CLA”).

Any individual who enters, attempts to enter or in any way participates or attempts to participate in the Contest (each such individual is hereinafter referred to as an “Entrant”) agrees to be bound by the terms and conditions set forth in these Contest Rules (“Rules”), as well as by CLA’s interpretations of these Rules which are final and binding in all matters relating to the Contest.

  1. ELIGIBILITY TO ENTER. The Contest is open to all individuals who are 18 years of age or older on the date of Contest registration. CLA reserves the right to verify an Entrant’s age and may reasonably deem an Entrant ineligible based on the identification presented.
  2. HOW TO ENTER. Entrants must register for the Contest through the Big Team Challenge application (the “Application”). The Application may be accessed via the following website (https://calawyers.bigteamchallenge.com) or via the Big Team Challenge mobile app. To register, Entrants must accurately complete all required fields, including providing a valid U.S. mailing address. When registering, individuals will select a Participation Tier (i.e., Standard, Medium, or High) to indicate their intended level of exertion.  Contest registration will open at 12:00 a.m. on July 12, 2023, and Entrants must register with the Application by 11:59 p.m. (Pacific) on August 1, 2023 (“Registration Deadline”) to participate in the Contest.
  3. ONCE ENTERED IN CONTEST. Any Entrant who completes and submits a valid registration via the Application by the Registration Deadline will be entitled to receive a digital certificate, valued at $0, reflecting their accomplishments at the conclusion of the Contest (“Participation Certificate”). The Participation Certificate will be emailed on or around September 13, 2023, to the email address that the Entrant provides.
  4. TEAMS. Entrants may register with the Application as a team or individually. If an Entrant registers as an individual, the Entrant may be assigned to a team as determined by CLA. Teams are intended to be comprised of five (5) individuals.  Teams must have at least four (4) individuals, but not more than five (5) individuals (“Team”).
  5. THE CONTEST. The Contest will begin at 12:00 a.m. (Pacific) on July 30, 2023 (“Contest Launch”) and end at 11:59 p.m. (Pacific) on September 9, 2023 (“Contest End”). Between the Contest Launch and the Contest End, each Team will compete against all other Teams in a “virtual walking challenge” with a specific virtual route to follow as determined by CLA. In-person interaction among members of a Team is not required. The Application, which is a virtual activity tracker that digitally tracks step/distance information, will track the Team’s accomplishments. Teams may either sync their own fitness devices to the Application or manually enter step/distance information into the Application. Any Team member opting to manually enter information is encouraged to do so promptly, as winners will be determined based on time-sensitive reports obtained by CLA from the Application.
  6. DETERMINATION OF WINNERS.
    1. Top Teams: There will be three (3) winning Teams: 1st place, 2nd place, and 3rd place. The Team that reaches the designated milestone of the virtual route (i.e., York at 846 miles) first will win 1st place. The Team that reaches the designated milestone second will win 2nd place. The Team that reaches the designated milestone third will win 3rd place. To determine the winning Teams, CLA will pull reports of the recorded accomplishments of each Team from the Application and will view the date and time, as recorded by the Application. The winning Teams will be determined by September 13, 2023, and CLA’s determination of the winning Teams will be final. Members of each winning Team will be notified by email on or around September 13, 2023. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes will be emailed, or mailed by U.S. mail, postage prepaid, to the email address or U.S. mailing address that the Entrant provides.
    2. Top Entrant: There will be one (1) winning individual.  The individual that walks the farthest, regardless of the virtual route, by the Contest End will win.  To determine the winning individual, CLA will pull reports of the recorded accomplishments of each Entrant from the Application and will view the total distance, as recorded by the Application. The winning individual will be determined by September 13, 2023, and CLA’s determination of the winning individual will be final. The winning individual will be notified by email on or around September 13, 2023. The prize will be emailed, or mailed by U.S. mail, postage prepaid, to the email address or U.S. mailing address that the Entrant provides.
    3. Top Weekly Entrants: Every week, the top two Entrants that walk the farthest that week will be awarded as follows: the Entrant who walks the farthest will win 1st place and the individual who walks the next farthest distance will win 2nd place.  Once an Entrant wins 1st place in this category, they will not be eligible to win 1st place in this category again for the duration of the Contest.  Once an Entrant wins 2nd place in this category, they will not be eligible to win 2nd place in this category again for the duration of the Contest.  To determine the winning individuals of each week, CLA will pull reports of the recorded accomplishments of each Entrant from the Application and will view the total distance, as recorded by the Application, per week. The time frame of each week is as follows: Week one (1) from July 30, 2023 at 12:00 a.m. to August 5, 2023 at 11:59 p.m.; Week two (2) from August 6, 2023 at 12:00 a.m. to August 12, 2023 at 11:59 p.m.; Week three (3) from August 13, 2023 at 12:00 a.m. to August 19, 2023 at 11:59 p.m.; Week four (4) from August 20, 2023 at 12:00 a.m. to August 26, 2023 at 11:59 p.m.; Week five (5) from August 27, 2023 at 12:00 a.m. to September 2, 2023 at 11:59 p.m.; and Week six (6) from September 3, 2023 at 12:00 a.m. to September 9, 2023 at 11:59 p.m.  The winning individuals will be determined on the Monday or Tuesday following each week (i.e., Week one (1) by August 8, 2023; Week two (2) by August 15, 2023; Week three (3) by August 22, 2023; Week four (4) by August 29, 2023; Week five (5) by September 5, 2023; and Week six (6) by September 12, 2023).
