Prior to UC Irvine School of Law, Natascha Fastabend was the Associate Director of the University of San Francisco School of Law’s (USF) Graduate Tax Program where she headed the launch of the LL.M. in Tax and the Master of Legal Studies in Tax (MLST) degrees. Ms. Fastabend was also responsible for the establishing USF’s Online Graduate Tax Program.

Ms. Fastabend is actively involved in the tax and estate planning community in Beverly Hills, Orange County, the San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento. Prior to relocating to Southern California, Ms. Fastabend was an active member of the Bar Association of San Francisco serving on the Board of Directors for the Barrister’s Club and as Treasurer. Ms. Fastabend also served as the Vice Chair of the San Francisco Barrister’s Tax Section, liaison to the San Francisco Barrister’s Estate Planning Section, member of the Young Tax Lawyers of San Francisco, and member of the Young Tax Lawyers of Sacramento. Ms. Fastabend currently serves on the Finance Committee of the Justice & Diversity Center of the Bar Association of San Francisco and is incoming Secretary of the Orange County Young Tax Lawyers Club.

Ms. Fastabend received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Law, Societies and Justice from the University of Washington, her Juris Doctorate degree from Golden Gate University School of Law and her LL.M. in Tax degree from the University of San Francisco School of Law.

Natascha Fastabend

Saba represents clients in state and local tax matters, with an emphasis on California controversies, refund claims, and audit defense related to income/franchise taxes.

Saba has significant experience representing corporate, individual, and pass- through clients in all levels of state and local tax controversy before the Franchise Tax Board, California Department of Tax and Fee Administration, Office of Tax Appeals, and other state taxing authorities. He also provides clients with consulting and planning assistance, related to both direct and sales & use tax matters. Prior to joining Deloitte, Saba spent time as a litigator at a national law firm and as a Tax Counsel to a Board Member at the California State Board of Equalization, where he assisted in the adjudication of California tax controversies. Additionally, Saba has written extensively on issues of state and federal taxation and has successfully presented legislative and policy proposals before the California State Legislature and several U.S. Congressional Committees.

Saba earned his J.D. from the UC Davis School of Law, LL.M in Taxation from the New York University School of Law, and B.A. from UC Berkeley. He is a frequent speaker on state taxation topics in various conferences, seminars, and training sessions, and serves as an adjunct professor of Tax Controversy at the UC Davis School of Law. He is the former Chair of the California Lawyers Association’s State and Local State and Local Tax Committee and is a current member of the Taxation Section’s Executive Committee.
