Webinar: Practicing Law in the Cannabis and Hemp Space in California

This program will offer an inside look at the practice of law here in California in service of clients in the cannabis and hemp industries. Panelists will provide an overview of cannabis and hemp legal concepts and issues for California lawyers to keep front-of-mind, as well as details on recent cannabis and hemp legislative and regulatory developments.

Whitney Hodges is a partner in the Real Estate, Land Use and Natural Resources Practice Group at Sheppard Mullin’s San Diego office. She is the leader of the firm’s Cannabis Industry Team and the office Recruiting Chair. Whitney’s practice focuses on the representation of clients involved in real estate development. She advises and represents major residential, industrial, commercial and mixed-use development projects, as well as Native American Indian tribes, cannabis operators and renewable energy developers through all phases of the land use regulatory process and environmental compliance. She is also an adjunct professor at the University of San Diego.

Whitney Hodges

William Tolin Gay is a corporate lawyer based in Los Angeles, Seattle, and Orange County with Wilson Elser Moskowitz Edelman & Dicker. A graduate of the University of Washington, he earned his J.D. in 1982, MBA in 1983, and LL.M. in Japanese law in 1984, and practiced in Tokyo from 1984 to 1988, representing U.S. and Japanese businesses. His practice in Southern California focuses on corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, cannabis, immigrant investors, and technology transfers. William is a member of the Commercial Services Practice Group of Wilson Elser, and a member of the firm’s CannaLaw Practice Team.  He is a past Chair of the International Law and Immigration Section of the CLA. He is currently Secretary of the CLA Cannabis Practitioners Group. 

William Tolin Gay

Shay Aaron Gilmore counsels exclusively cannabis and hemp operators and investors in corporate and commercial transactions, focusing on private mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures, private equity financings, cannabis distribution and supply agreements, licensing and product development, real estate, employment counsel, administrative law, and regulatory compliance matters. Shay has been recognized by the Los Angeles/San Francisco Daily Journal as one of the Top 20 Cannabis Lawyers in California. Shay has served on the San Francisco Cannabis Oversight Committee, and he provides pro bono legal services to social equity individuals verified under San Francisco’s Cannabis Equity Program. 

Shay Aaron Gilmore

Daniel Cheung is an attorney with Adamski Moroski Madden Cumberland & Green LLP in San Luis Obispo. His law practice focuses on general corporate matters, representation in administrative and regulatory proceedings, and representation of public entities. Daniel is part of the New Lawyers Section Executive Committee and serves as its Secretary and chair of the Professional Development Subcommittee.
