Conversation between new Chief Judge, Philip Gutierrez, and Judge Dolly Gee for the Central District regarding changes to and new vision for the Court and tips for effective advocacy given the changes

Through a very informative discussion, new Chief Judge Philip Gutierrez and Judge Dolly Gee will discuss changes already implemented at the United States District Court for the Central District of California to address COVID-19: technology, rules and general orders, and safety precautions and protocols.  Accordingly, Chief Judge Gutierrez and Judge Gee will share tips for effective advocacy given those changes.  Furthermore, Chief Judge Gutierrez and Judge Gee will provide insights into the vision of the Central District amid a pandemic and under the new leadership of Chief Judge Gutierrez.  Lastly, Chief Judge Gutierrez and Judge Gee will offer some dos and don’ts for Central District practitioners.

Honorable Philip S. Gutierrez was nominated to the United States District Court for the Central District of California by President George W. Bush on January 9, 2007.  Chief Judge Gutierrez was confirmed by the United States Senate on January 30, 2007.  Chief Judge Gutierrez graduated from the University of Notre Dame with his B.A. in 1981 and later from the University of California – Los Angeles School of Law with his J.D. in 1984.  Chief Judge Gutierrez was a private practice attorney from 1986 to 1997 before becoming a judge on the Superior Court of Los Angeles County from 1997 to 2007.

Honorable Dolly M. Gee was nominated by President Barack Obama on August 7, 2009, to the United States District Court for the Central District of California.  Judge Gee was confirmed by the United States Senate on December 24, 2009.  Judge Gee received her B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1981 and her J.D. from UCLA School of Law in 1984.  After law school, Judge Gee clerked for Judge Milton Schwartz of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California until 1986.  Judge Gee was a managing partner at Schwartz, Steinsapir, Dohrmann & Sommers, LLP.
