A basic instruction of the Hague Treaty [Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction] and the UCCJEA [Uniformed Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act].  How to navigate both through the judicial system and how they are not exclusive – they can be used concurrently.

B J Fadem

B J Fadem started practicing Law in 1985 and became Certified as a Specialist in Family Law by the State Bar of California in 2000. He is also a Certified Specialist as an International Mediator by UC Hastings Law School. And an Adjunct Professor at Santa Clara Law School teaching Wills & Trust as well as Family Law. The Law Offices of B J Fadem & Associates was founded in 1991. However, this career followed his previous incarnations with the San Jose Police Department, an Insurance Investigator, a liability supervisor for Transamerica Insurance, a Pre-Trial Release Specialist, and a musician. B J Fadem is one of very few Attorneys in California that specializes in Palimony, International and Interstate domestic cases, including Hague Child Abduction, International Jurisdiction and matters of Uniformed Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act Matters.

In 2017, B J Fadem Co-Authored and was instrumental in implementing new legislation that established emergency jurisdiction over custody and property matters pending a transfer of case due to a change of venue.

He has written several articles for the California State Bar Family Law Section publication; as well as being a contributing author for several publications. 

Nicole Ford

Nicki Ford is a bilingual (Spanish) family law attorney in private practice after over 10 years in the non-profit sector.  She has been working in the field of domestic violence and family law for nearly 15 years as both a DV advocate and attorney. Her practice currently includes family law, as well as representing victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking in criminal court and other civil matters as well as Hague trials and international & inter-state child abduction matters.
