Letter from the Chair
Dear Officers of the Court and Conference Circuit,
The Section just completed its 49th Annual Institute, and it was nothing short of a springtime delight. Thanks to all who attended—the energy at the conference was electric, and we had a tremendous collection of impressive and riveting speakers, and truly inspiring award winners. If you weren’t able to make it don’t fret, the panels will be in our webinar catalog in the coming months.
Our social events were also buckets of fun—please stay tuned for the publication the City Wildlife Photos of The Year from the Friday scavenger hunt.
Infinite kudos to my fantastic planning committee (both formal and informal members), as well as to our Section Administrator, Kristina Robledo, and the CLA marketing team (especially the Institute photographer, Alicia Pilmore).
After the Institute, we held our Appointments Quarterly Meeting, during which we amassed excellent ideas for future conference events (including shark cage diving, spa day, karaoke, mandatory 9 pm bedtimes, and puppy yoga). Please drop me a line if you have suggestions. In addition, we had excellent Executive Committee applicants, and I look forward to seeing those who were appointed in the soon. We also elected our new incoming Section Secretary/Treasurer (who will become Chair before she blinks)—Mieke Malmberg!
Meanwhile, the band marches on.
This month we have two exciting webinars for your viewing pleasure: On April 1st from 1-2 pm you can learn about trademark clearance, prosecution and enforcement issues in the wine industry with Whose Wine is it Anyway? Trademark Issues in the Wine Industry, and on April 9th from 9-10 am come digest some insights about optimal use of mediation during Strategic Use of Mediation in High-Stake Disputes: A Cost-Effective Alternative to Litigation.
Our dauntless Scavenger Hunt leader and former Chair John Pavolotsky has begun posting California State IP Legislative Updates on our Interest Group webpage, and next month the DC Delegation is off to the Capital to rub elbows with policymakers and bring you the latest developments in IP law and procedure.
It’s always an adventure with this crowd.

Until the next panel,
Leaf Williams
