Los Angeles Incubator Consortium: Supporting New and Solo Lawyers

By Tammie Ton

The Los Angeles Incubator Consortium (LAIC) supports newly licensed and early-career lawyers in building sustainable, community-focused law practices throughout Southern California. The program is grounded in the belief that strong legal careers and access to justice go hand in hand.

LAIC operates as a legal incubator, helping attorneys navigate the challenges of solo and small-firm practice. Participants receive practical, hands-on training in essential law practice skills often not taught in law school, including client intake, billing, trust accounting, case management, and basic business planning.

Mentorship is a core component of LAIC. Participants work with experienced attorneys who provide guidance, feedback, and real-world insights, helping new lawyers develop confidence, sound judgment, and accountability.

LAIC also advances access to justice by supporting work in high-need practice areas such as housing, employment, family law, immigration, and small business matters. Through reduced-fee, sliding-scale, and pro bono services, participants gain valuable experience while serving underserved communities.

My participation in LAIC has been both professionally and personally rewarding. I gained hands-on pro bono and trial experience as well as opportunities to present community legal education programs through LAIC’s collaboration with the Los Angeles Law Library. The mentorship and professional connections I formed reinforced my commitment to service, access to justice, and lifelong learning.

LAIC is currently accepting applications for Cohort 12. Attorneys interested in learning more or applying may contact the Attorney Development Director, Maria Hall, at laincubatorconsortium@gmail.com.
