Letter From the Chair

I hope everybody has had a lovely April! The weather out in Sacramento and Tahoe has been unbelievable recently, minus some storms at the beginning of the month.  I hope you and your families are getting the chance to get out and enjoy some sun. The hiking in Tahoe has been fantastic, so if you get a chance I recommend making a trip.

On the topic of the great outdoors, our own immediate past Chair John Pavolotsky hosts frequent wellness hikes and they are always a blast. Great conversation, great environments, and great people. The next hike is on May 17th and will be along the Dipsea Trail near Mill Valley. If you enjoy hiking and are in NorCal, these are not to be missed!

For those of you attending INTA, or residing in SoCal, we will also be hosting a Run/Walk 5k at 9AM on May 18th in San Diego. While the final route may be subject to change, we’ll be running by the USS Midway, the Bob Hope Tribute, and the Kissing Statue. It should be a great way to start your day right.

If MCLE is what you’re after, we have a new webinar coming up on May 21st discussing how to think about attorney’s fees awards in IP and contracting cases. On June 3rd, we have a 2025 update webinar on the everchanging world of trademarks in the cannabis and CBD industries.

As always, if you are interested in working more hands-on with IP-related programming, the simplest way is to join or volunteer with one of our many Interest Groups. We have interest groups ranging from Copyright, Patent, and Trademark to more practice-focused groups such as Entertainment and Sports Law and Technology, Internet and Privacy. There’s sure to be something to suit your particular practice. We’re also always interested in authors for New Matter if there’s a topic you’re interested in writing on!

Finally, if you have a specific topic you would be interested in seeing turned into a webinar or other programming, don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I am always only an email away and I love hearing from our members!

All the best,

Jon Lurie
