The Executive Committee for the Environmental Law Section (ELS) is comprised of 17 members who serve staggered three-year terms. We also have a Liaison who sits on the Executive Committee for the New Lawyers Section (NLS) and serves a two-year term. Read more

Every year, the Section grants a number of fellowships to bright and motivated law students to help finance their summer jobs practicing environmental, energy, land use, and/or natural resources law at a participating government agency or public interest organization. The Section also matches the Fellows with mentors who practice in the field, and provides webinars, career panels, get-togethers and more, so the Fellows can meet other section members and attorneys. And to cap it all off, the section invites Fellows to attend the Environmental Law Conference at Yosemite® in October, with free conference registration. We are days away from our “We Go Together” Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Conference, which will be held on Friday, June 6 at Loyola Law School, with remote viewing locations in Sacramento, San Diego, and San Francisco, as well as a virtual option. Read more
On March 31, 2025, Professor Harrison “Hap” Case Dunning passed away at the age of 86. Many Environmental Law Section members learned from and were inspired by Professor Dunning who was a professor of law at UC Davis. Read more
“What we do matters, especially in an extraordinarily difficult time.” That was one line from UCLA Law professor Ann Carlson who gave the plenary remarks at our April 9 symposium “Charging Ahead” exploring ways to cut vehicle pollution during the next four years. Read more
