Lawyers increasingly use artificial intelligence in the practice of law.  The ethical implications range from the risks to the lawyer’s duty of competence, the need to protect confidentiality of client information, and the importance of maintaining effective supervision, not to mention the ethical rules governing legal fees and other issues.  An experience ethics lawyer will discuss the uses of AI in legal practice, how the ethical rules apply, and case studies where lawyers made mistakes or committed misconduct leading to liability, sanctions and discipline. Encouraging attorneys with their “Yes, you can build a thriving law practice” enthusiasm, California Lawyers Association’s (CLA) Solo and Small Firm Section conducted a day-long seminar in Los Angeles designed to build skills and confidence in lawyers working to grow their own legal practices. The in-person event, attended by more than 50 attorneys, was held on October 25, 2024, at the Bonaventure Hotel in partnership with the Los Angeles County Bar Association. Read more

The City by the Bay was the backdrop for the 2024 Golden State & Unfair Competition Law Institute held on October 24, 2024. More than 250 people attended the high-profile, sold out educational conference in San Francisco, bringing together private and public sector attorneys, academics, legal experts, economists, judges, and students to learn about recent developments in the law, trials, and regulatory enforcement. CLA’s Real Property Law Section (RPLS) held it’s Funky Fall Soirée on the beautiful golf course patio at The Loma Club at Liberty Station on October 17th. Promising participants a lively atmosphere and great way to make connections, the electrifying evening did not disappoint. More than 100 people attended the event, where longtime colleagues and newcomers alike discussed a broad array of subjects including real estate trends, transactions, and the impact new technologies have on all sectors of the industry.
