As we enter the Month of June, it is important to reflect on the significance of Juneteenth to American History. Juneteenth is more than just a time for celebration, it is also a time for reflection. I am the descendant of the Black slaves who built the United States over multiple generations and hundreds of years without any compensation or recognition for their sacrifice. I am the manifestation of the dreams of my ancestors who were denied basic human rights, educational opportunities, and economic opportunities because of the color of their skin, the texture of their hair, and their beautiful African features. California Lawyers Association’s (CLA) Environment Law Section will host its third Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Conference on Friday, June 6, 2025. The collaborative event will be held at Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, California, with three remote locations livestreaming the impactful day in Sacramento, San Francisco, and San Diego. Conference organizers think the opportunity for dialogue is so important that participants may register on-site in order to learn and engage about growing inequality, climate change, and environmental racism.
