California is set to fully reopen on June 15th following more than a year of pandemic restrictions, which has affected us all. This month also marks the Juneteenth commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. While we celebrate Juneteenth, we also acknowledge that slavery and racism have left a mark on all of us, especially on the hearts of every Black American. Read more
The benefits of CLA membership are numerous and increasing every day. During the pandemic we recognized our members’ need for connection and launched online communities—there’s one for every Section plus a few open to any member. We began Zoom “coffee chats” which have since morphed into CLA-wide evening gatherings called “Coffee, Cocktails and Conversation”. Recent research has led us to an exciting new offering on the horizon—an electronic magazine. Read more
The California Lawyers Association was sad to hear of the passing of former California Supreme Court Associate Justice Cruz Reynoso on May 7, at the age of 90. The Honorable Justice Reynoso was a tireless advocate for Latinx people impacted by discrimination. He was appointed vice-chair of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights by President Bill Clinton and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2000 for his work on social justice issues. Read more

Like so many of us, I am an insomniac. Or, more accurately these days, I am a recovering one, thanks to the small changes I made in my daily routines. In my ongoing pursuit of a great night’s sleep, I have researched and tested a lot of tips and techniques, and finally arrived at a combination of sleep hygiene habits that work quite well for me. I want to share what I’ve learned in the hope that it might be helpful for you as well. Read more
