White House Unveils AI Action Plan
Released on July 23rd, the White House’s “America’s AI Action Plan” outlines its vision for artificial intelligence policy, emphasizing the removal of barriers to innovation and adoption. This 28-page document, stemming from President Donald Trump’s January executive order on AI, signifies a shift towards policies designed to secure U.S. AI dominance against strong competition from China. A key aspect of the plan is the directive for federal agencies to develop new standards and re-evaluate existing ones, such as the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s AI Risk Management Framework. It also includes instructions to review current regulations for potential hindrances to AI development and a focus on safeguarding free speech and fairness within large language models, including an effort to prevent states from implementing their own AI regulations.
