Legislative Lens Launches: FLEXCOM’s New Monthly Briefing on California Family Law, Policy, and Community Initiatives
By Leslie L. Abrigo, CLS-F
The California Lawyers Association Family Law Executive Committee (FLEXCOM) is excited to share that we successfully launched Legislative Lens, a new free monthly webinar series created to help California family law practitioners stay informed, connected, and supported through timely updates on legislation, policy developments, and community-based initiatives impacting family law practice statewide. Attendance gets you 1.0 hours of self-study credit.
Our inaugural program, hosted by myself and Shanon Quinley, CLS-F, took place on Thursday, January 8, 2026, live via Zoom, and marked the beginning of what we intend to be a consistent, practitioner-focused space for shared learning and statewide visibility.
About Legislative Lens
Legislative Lens is FLEXCOM’s newest educational initiative. The goal is simple: provide a concise, practice-centered briefing on new laws, rule changes, and policy developments as they take effect while also spotlighting the training programs, projects, and collaborative efforts happening across California that strengthen family law practice and support families.
By pairing legislative updates with visibility for community-driven work, Legislative Lens is designed to elevate the family law community by sharing best practices, encourage collaboration, and highlight meaningful work throughout our statewide family law community.
Highlights from the January 8, 2026 Program
Our January program focused on new family law legislation that took effect January 1, 2026, offering attendees a high-level overview of key statutory changes and practical takeaways to keep on their radar as the year begins.
We also featured a guest segment with Attorney Gregory Gillett, who shared information about an upcoming Minors’ Counsel training being offered through the San Luis Obispo County Bar Association.
The San Luis Obispo Minor’s Counsel training will take place at The Cliffs, in Pismo Beach on March 13-14, 2026. There will be a virtual option to attend. Learn more today.

How to Attend Legislative Lens
Legislative Lens is free, and registration is required for each program. They occur on the second Thursday of each month at noon. The next one is on February 12, 2026 at noon. You can attend the February episode here. Again, attendance gets you 1.0 hours of self-study credit.
FLEXCOM looks forward to continuing Legislative Lens as a monthly forum that brings together legislation, policy, and community-focused work in service of California’s family law practitioners statewide.
