Family Law

A Message From the Executive Board

As we approach the midpoint of 2025, take time to reflect on recent family law case developments. Like always, this issue offers a concise overview of family law and dependency case updates.

Now, the care, diligence, and emotional energy that family law practitioners bring to each case is nothing short of commendable. You navigate complex human dynamics with professionalism, patience and more late-night emails than anyone should admit to. But in a field where advocating for others often comes first, it’s easy to forget to advocate for yourself.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month – a timely reminder that even in the midst of high-stakes cases and endless client demands, your well being matters. Practicing law is demanding; taking care of yourself shouldn’t be optional. Whether it’s stepping outside between meetings, setting firmer email or phone call boundaries, or just remembering to drink water (that isn’t coffee), small changes can make a big difference. This month, we encourage you to prioritize your own mental resilience as much as you do your clients’ outcomes.

So, here’s your permission to close your laptop before 10 p.m. at least once this week and avoid that 11 p.m. client text (you know the one). Your mental health is a long-term investment in your practice, self-care is not indulgent, it’s essential.
