Webinar: Move for Mastery: The Science of Exercise for Sharper Thinking and Better Lawyering

Learning objectives:

  1. Explain how physical activity supports an attorney’s competence.
  2. Identify the wellness and performance benefits of exercise.
  3. Demonstrate time-efficient movement strategies.
  4. Incorporate practical tools and motivation techniques.

This wellness program explores how regular physical activity enhances an attorney’s ability to competently perform legal services. Participants will learn the science-backed benefits of aerobic exercise, strength training, stretching, and other accessible forms of movement. The session highlights how exercise reduces stress, sharpens cognition, boosts decision-making, and supports emotional resilience—key components of competent legal practice. This course satisfies the MCLE Competence-Wellness requirement.

Born and raised in Southern California, Lita Abella, JD, is a board-certified leadership coach and mediator.  She is a dynamic leader dedicated to empowerment and transformative growth.She empowers leaders and organizations in high-stress industries to transform workplace culture and performance through a six-step trauma-informed framework that strengthens resilience, fosters trust, and enhances overall well-being.

Lita holds a Juris Doctor degree from Western State University College of Law. This legal foundation equips her with a deep understanding of conflict resolution and the complexities of the legal field.

As a seasoned public speaker, she delivers keynote presentations and workshops to legal professionals and other professionals in high-stress careers on topics such as substance use disorders, mental health issues, and wellness strategies. Her diverse background with the LAPD and several prosecutorial agencies, including the State Bar of California, highlights her resilience and leadership under pressure. She understands the emotional toll that high-stress careers can take, particularly regarding PTSD, vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue, and burnout. She published The ABELLA Model: Leading High-Stress Professionals with Trauma-Informed Practices. She is a certified AFAA fitness instructor and a member of the CLA Health and Wellness Committee.
