Webinar: Introduction to the Federal Sentencing Guidelines for State Practitioners

Former federal prosecutors Julian André and Eddie Jauregui will provide an introductory overview of the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines for state practitioners and others seeking to learn more about federal criminal sentencing proceedings. Messrs. André and Jauregui will explain the structure and application of the Guidelines, the process of responding to a Probation Office report (and Guidelines analysis), and the process of preparing a sentencing memorandum.

Julian André

Julian André is a Partner in McDermott Will & Emery LLP’s Los Angeles office. An experienced trial attorney and former federal prosecutor, Julian’s practice focuses on government prosecutions, enforcement actions and investigations, complex civil litigation, and internal investigations. 

During his time at McDermott, Julian has successfully defended clients in connection with numerous federal and state criminal prosecutions and investigations. He has also represented clients in False Claims Act investigations, ERISA class actions, securities litigation, and intellectual property disputes, saving his clients millions of dollars in potential fines and judgments. 

Prior to rejoining McDermott in 2021, Julian spent six years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Los Angeles. While an AUSA, Julian served in the Major Frauds Section where he investigated and prosecuted complex financial crimes, including health care fraud, securities fraud, bank fraud, education fraud, CARES Act fraud, bankruptcy fraud, import/export crimes, tax crimes and money laundering. Two marquee cases handled during his time as a federal prosecutor include the prosecutions of Michael Avenatti and China Zhongwang.

Eddie Jauregui

Eddie Jauregui is a litigation attorney in Holland & Knight’s Los Angeles office and co-chair of the firm’s White Collar Defense and Investigations Team. A former federal prosecutor, Mr. Jauregui focuses his practice on government and internal investigations, corporate compliance and training, white collar criminal defense and complex business disputes.

Mr. Jauregui represents business organizations, healthcare institutions, financial institutions and senior corporate officers and directors in high-stakes matters pursued by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), state attorneys general and other prosecutorial and enforcement agencies. His practice spans across various subject areas, including anti-money laundering and Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) matters, anti-bribery and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) matters, False Claims Act (FCA) matters, civil and criminal environmental matters, healthcare fraud and government contract fraud, among others.

Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Mr. Jauregui served for over six years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney (AUSA) in Los Angeles, where he prosecuted high-profile fraud, extortion and public corruption cases, and argued a number of appeals. Mr. Jauregui also serves as an adjunct instructor at the University of Southern California Gould School of Law.
