CalABLE Accounts offer different benefits to those that qualify than other planning tools such as special needs trusts. CalABLE Accounts have requirements to set up and allow for more flexible spending options without having the funds considered a countable asset for needs-based government assistance programs. Really, CalABLE accounts are a great tool to be used in conjunction with, or in addition to, individual special needs trusts or pooled special needs trusts.
