Free Webinar: Bias and Stereotypes – Legal and Psychological Perspectives

Free event! Self-study credit offered, 1.5 hours of MCLE Credit in Elimination of Bias.

Presented by the Health and Wellness Committee.

Not your usual bias and stereotype session as these topics will be approached from a psychological perspective. The judgmental heuristics and the biases they produce in social and legal situations will be discussed as well as the methods for correcting and improving judgments. The goal is to provide insight into fair decision making and how to maintain it.

Judge Nomoto Schumann

Judge Nomoto Schumann was a Superior Court Judge for over 30 years, and the first Asian woman to be appointed in Orange County.  She is currently still sitting on assignment. She has been past president of California Judges’ Association; past president of the American Judges Association; chair of the Ethics Committee of both CJA and National Association of Women Judges; and adjunct faculty for the University of California Irvine Law School. She has presented a paper on judicial ethics at the Vatican under Pope Francis. In her spare time, Judge Schumann is a drummer in a jazz band; teaches Japanese tea Ceremony; and relaxes with her dogs and horse.
