Shira Seigle Markovich is a Deputy Attorney General in the Appeals, Writs, and Trials Section in the Los Angeles office of the California Attorney General. Shira joined the Capital Team as an assistant reviewer in 2020 after nine years on the Non-Capital Federal Habeas Team. Shira has presented oral arguments before the California Court of Appeal, California Supreme Court, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in both capital and non-capital cases. She has participated in three federal evidentiary hearings in district court and was an Evidentiary Hearing Coordinator for the Los Angeles office. Shira has helped prepare dozens of attorneys for oral argument in capital and non-capital cases in both state and federal court. She received her BA in Social Ecology from UC Irvine, and her JD from UC Law San Francisco.
Dana Muhammad Ali is a Supervising Deputy Attorney General in the Appeals, Writs, and Trials Section in the Los Angeles office of the California Attorney General. Dana joined the Capital Team immediately after serving as a National Association of Attorneys General Supreme Court Fellow in 2015. She has been the Capital Case Coordinator for Los Angeles since 2019, and in that capacity, oversees cases relating to 200+ capital defendants. Dana has presented oral argument before the California Courts of Appeal, the California Supreme Court, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in both capital and non-capital cases. Since 2015, she has helped dozens of attorneys prepare for their capital arguments. Dana received her BA in Political Science from UCSD in 2003, and her JD from California Western School of Law in 2006.
