Environmental Law

Interested in volunteering with the Environmental Law Section but short on time?

Volunteering with the Environmental Legislation Review Committee is a low commitment way to get involved and connect with other environmental lawyers. Members typically track five to seven environmental and energy bills, reviewing them for legal sufficiency and flagging technical issues in coordination with legislative staff. The committee meets a few times over the course of the session, beginning with a brief technical-error training via Zoom in January 2026. The committee’s only in-person meeting is at the Capitol in March 2026 (“Leg Day”), where members receive briefings on the current session from senior policy consultants to the environmental committees of both houses. Throughout the session, members will occasionally convene via Zoom to brief the group on their active bills. At the end of the session, members draft two-to-three-sentence summaries of their chaptered bills. In return for a modest time investment, volunteers gain behind-the-scenes insight into the legislative process, briefings from key committee consultants, and meaningful professional connections across environmental sub-specialties.
