About Legislative Lens

Legislative Lens is FLEXCOM’s newest educational initiative, created to provide family law practitioners with a concise, practice-focused briefing on new laws, rule changes, and policy developments as they take effect. In addition to legislative analysis, the series is intentionally designed to highlight legal and family law–based community projects, training programs, and collaborative efforts that support practitioners and serve families across the state.

By pairing legislative updates with visibility for community-driven work, Legislative Lens aims to elevate best practices, promote collaboration, and showcase the meaningful work being done throughout California’s family law community.

The series is hosted by Leslie Abrigo, CFLS, Chair of FLEXCOM, and Shanon Quinley, CFLS, FLEXCOM’s Legislative Chair.

January 8, 2026, Program Overview

The January 8 program will focus on new family law legislation taking effect January 1, 2026, offering attendees a high-level overview of statutory changes practitioners should have on their radar as the new year begins. The discussion will emphasize practical implications and key takeaways for everyday practice.

The program will also include a brief guest segment with Attorney Gregory Gillett, who will discuss an upcoming Minors’ Counsel training being offered by the San Luis Obispo County Bar Association, as well as other legal and family law–focused community initiatives currently underway in the San Luis Obispo area. This segment reflects Legislative Lens’s broader goal of spotlighting educational programs and community efforts that strengthen family law practice and support practitioners statewide.
