Another new year means another series of changes to California criminal law. This popular annual webinar, led by Los Angeles County Deputy Public Defender Albert Camacho and Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney Alan Yochelson, will walk you through all the criminal law changes taking effect January 1, 2026, and explain how they will impact both the prosecution and defense of criminal cases in California.
Hearing directly from both a deputy public defender and a deputy district attorney offers a rare opportunity to see how “both sides” are reading and planning to apply these new laws, giving you practical, immediately useful insights for your own practice.

Albert Camacho Jr., Deputy Public Defender, Los Angeles County Office of the Public Defender Albert Camacho Jr. has been with the LA County Public Defender’s Office for 30 years. He has presented the New Laws Webinar for the past several years and has also presented to various organizations on felony sentencing and immigration consequences of criminal convictions.

Alan Yochelson is a Head Deputy District Attorney for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, where he has served since 1981. He is a graduate of the University of California at Santa Barbara, and the Southwestern University School of Law. Mr. Yochelson has worked in several assignments, including the Career Criminal, Sex Crimes, Special Investigations, and Juvenile Divisions. He currently is the Head Deputy of the District Attorney’s Justice System Integrity Division. He is a past chair of the California State Bar Criminal Law Section Executive Committee, and California Committee of Bar Examiners, and previously served on the California Commission on Judicial Nominee Evaluations. He is currently a co-chair of the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Judicial Appointments Committee and the California State Bar’s Committee of Bar Examiners.
