Real Property Law

Cal. Real. Prop. Journal VOLUME 43, ISSUE 1, AUGUST 2025

CHAIR LETTER

Written by Mark Allen Wilson

Dear RPLS Journal Readers:

As Chair of the RPLS Executive Committee ("ExCom"), I want to personally thank you for supporting the Real Property Law Section ("RPLS") Journal and for making RPLS one of the most successful and active sections within the California Lawyers Association ("CLA"). You, the members, are the reason why RPLS is one of the premiere CLA sections. It is a sincere honor to serve you as Chair of the RPLS ExCom for the 2024-2025 term and to lead the amazing group of volunteer voting members and advisors who serve on the ExCom. The Covid 19 pandemic created some difficulties and challenges for the Section, so we are committed to bringing the highest possible value to you and your CLA and RPLS memberships. Our sole focus on the ExCom is to provide a valuable and memorable membership experience by creating and offering exceptional and timely educational programming through the RPLS E-News, our flagship RPLS Journal, in-person and live webinar CLE panels and programming, regional networking events, and our annual RPLS Retreat. The RPLS Retreat and 10th Annual Women in Commercial Leasing Symposium was a resounding success. The Retreat was held from March 7 to March 9, 2025, in Monterey, CA, at the Intercontinental the Clement Resort, and 161 registered attendees were treated to cutting edge CLE programs, networking and cocktail receptions, scenic ocean beauty, and the shops and restaurants on Cannery Row in Monterey.

My goal for the 2024-25 term was to make RPLS the destination for legal expertise in real property and real estate law, and I am proud to report that the ExCom and our Editor in Chief, Bryan Payne, have reinvigorated the RPLS Journal by bringing in fresh, poignant, and cutting-edge educational content created by the best and brightest legal minds. The RPLS Journal has long been the seminal cornerstone of our Section, and my priority this term was to create an RPLS Journal Committee to provide pivotal support for Mr. Payne and assist him with identifying themes and securing authors for Journal editions.
