Big Ideas from our “Charging Ahead” Symposium on Cutting Vehicle Pollution

“What we do matters, especially in an extraordinarily difficult time.” That was one line from UCLA Law professor Ann Carlson who gave the plenary remarks at our April 9 symposium “Charging Ahead” exploring ways to cut vehicle pollution during the next four years. More than 175 people turned out for the all-day symposium at UCLA Law, co-hosted by the Emmett Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at UCLA and co-sponsored by LA Climate Week. The event featured a keynote address by California Attorney General Rob Bonta and three expert panels on a variety of transportation themes. If you missed out, watch the videos below and read the key takeaways. Read more.
- Panel One explored where we stand with zero-emission vehicles, the biggest threats, and solutions to maintaining momentum. Watch this panel.
- Panel Two focused on “place-based approaches to transforming fleets” in cities and local air districts, including the role of Zero Emission Vehicle-only zones and Indirect Source Rules. Watch this panel.
- Panel Three got us out of cars and trucks and into metro trains and buses, outlining successful policies to boost public transit in Los Angeles and elsewhere. Watch this panel.
