The panel will provide practical tips for building and fostering highly effective working relationships between in-house and outside counsel in order to optimize communications, work product, and business development efforts.
Moderator: Kieran De Terra
Sushila Chanana is a high-stakes technology litigator and legal advisor and has a background in privacy and cybersecurity. She represents companies in complex civil matters, including patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secrets disputes. Her clients have ranged from startups to Fortune 500 companies. In addition to representing clients in federal and state court, at both the trial and appellate levels, Sushila has also assisted clients with matters before the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). Additionally, Sushila has drafted amicus briefs in various U.S. Supreme Court cases.
In addition to successfully representing clients in court, she routinely secures favorable settlements on behalf of her clients. Outside of litigation, Sushila works with her clients to develop long-term intellectual property protection strategies. She counsels companies on compliance with various data privacy laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).
Prior to law school, Sushila was a cybersecurity consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers. She also served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Ronald B. Robie of the Third District of the California Court of Appeal.
She previously served as a U.S. Supreme Court Legal News Correspondent in Washington, D.C.
Mark Leonard is General Counsel for Jelly Belly Candy Company and is responsible for all company litigation and all legal matters related to intellectual property, e-commerce, inbound and outbound licensing, marketing, international distributors, and ingredient and packaging regulatory compliance.
Prior to joining Jelly Belly Mark was in private practice at Davis & Leonard LLP, a boutique intellectual property transactional and litigation firm he co-founded in Sacramento, California in 2003, where he specialized in trademark prosecution, general intellectual property counseling, trademark and copyright infringement litigation, and Trademark Trial and Appeal Board proceedings.
