Highlight on CLA WC Section Subcommittees
California Young Lawyers Association by Jesus Mendoza, Esq., Laughlin, Falbo, Levy & Moresi, San Francisco; Liaison, California Young Lawyers Association
The California Young Lawyers Association (CYLA) is a member-driven, mission-focused organization that consists of and serves all lawyers in California who have practiced for 8 years or less. The CYLA’s mission is to advance practical skills, leadership, pro bono opportunities, networking, and support to meet the unique needs of California’s diverse community of new lawyers. The CYLA Executive Committee consists of the officer team, at large members, and liaisons to each of the 16 sections of the California Lawyers Association (CLA). As the liaison to the workers’ compensation section, my role includes collaborating with the Executive Committee of the workers’ compensation section and reporting to both organizations to promote their professional and educational goals. With the unique challenge posed by COVID-19, CYLA has mobilized to provide more low-cost resources to young lawyers, including free and reduced cost online content, such as live webinars and recorded content, as well as support through written materials.
CYLA is currently focused on preparing additional content geared toward young workers’ compensation practitioners and practitioners in general. We are always in search of willing speakers and presenters. A current focus is 10-minute mentor videos, which are short but comprehensive videos shared via CYLA’s YouTube page to provide free content on hot topics in the practice area explained by experienced attorneys. Please contact me at jmendoza@lflm.com to inquire further and/or volunteer to speak or submit content.
