Updates from CLA’s CEO and President on the LA Fires

January 13, 2025

Dear CLA Members, Colleagues, and Friends,

As the Los Angeles County wildfires continue to burn, we continue to share our deepest concern with you, your families and friends, and everyone impacted by the catastrophic fires. We offer our condolences for the lives lost and to the communities dealing with this tragedy.

Over the past several days, we have heard from many of our leaders and members who have shared their concerns and offered support for the wildfire victims. We have also received messages from colleagues, as far away as Japan, offering their sincere words of kindness. It is comforting to know we have friends so far away thinking about us and keeping us in their thoughts. CLA stands in solidarity with the citizens of Los Angeles County. Please know you are not alone.

We are thankful for the life-saving work by the thousands of firefighters, first responders, and all of the people standing in harm’s way from around our country and other nations to help Southern California during this perilous time.

Here is information about resources to help deal with this devastation.

Underinsurance is one of the biggest concerns for those experiencing a wildfire loss. United Policyholders provides resources to consumers regarding insurance and how to navigate the claims process, especially following a disaster.  Here is a link to its website.

The State Bar of California provides resources for disaster help, here. You can also get involved through the ABA Disaster Legal Services program.

FEMA has resources to help recover from the wildfires.  Federal help is available here.

The state also has a webpage listing resources for those impacted by the fires, here

In addition to the state’s webpage, The City of Los Angeles also has resources available to those in need, here.

For those with pets, or concerns about pets, help is available here.

Lastly, CLA encourages our members who wish to help the victims, to donate to an organization of your choice.

We may all have in common our work in the legal field, but most importantly, we stand together for Californians.

Sincerely,
