MESSAGE FROM THE SECTION CHAIR

Fellow Solo & Small Firm practitioners – It’s been a disturbing few weeks here in the trenches of the legal profession. There is drama and potential overturning of legal precedent by the Supreme Court that should worry everyone involved in the legal field. The country is on edge. Again. What can we do? Educate those around us about the potential impacts of the legal reasoning that could be used by the Court to overturn longstanding precedent. Those in our community who do not understand the implications of this latest development need be made aware of long term implications of this potentially momentous Supreme Court decision.

At the end of the day, we attorneys are the last line of defense to uphold the rule of law. It is our job – in fact, I would say our duty – to educate those who do not have the benefit of our education, experience, and insight on legal developments. The great experiment known as American democracy relies on us to be the torch bearers for truth and education. Education is what Solo and Small Firm attorneys do best. We have a knack for being able to explain legal concepts to our clients in ways they can understand. It’s part of the reason why clients keep coming back to us and referring business to us. Let’s put our talents to good use and educate those around us on what could be happening in the near future and what it could mean.

We are all tired. We have our firms to run. But as experienced attorneys, it is our duty to rise to the challenge of the moment.
