On November 21, 2022, California Attorney General Rob Bonta submitted a comment to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in its Advance notice of Proposed Rulemaking on Commercial Surveillance and Data Security.  Read more
On September 15, 2022, the California Age-Appropriate Design Code Act (CAADCA) was signed into law.  The CAADCA recognizes that "children need special safeguard[s] and care in all aspects of their lives."  Read more
On January 27, 2023, California Attorney General announced an investigative sweep focusing on businesses with mobile apps that fail to comply with the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). Read more
On February 3, 2023, the Board of the California Privacy Protection Agency (the Agency) voted unanimously in favor of approving the text of the proposed CCPA regulations. Read more

In December 2015, pursuant to SB 806, California’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) started a pilot program to evaluate the use of alternatives to vehicle stickers, tabs, license plates, and registration cards under specific conditions. The program evaluated the use of electronic registration cards, license plate wraps, and digital license plates. Read more
In early October 2022, a jury found Uber’s former Chief Security Officer, Joseph Sullivan, guilty of obstruction of justice and deliberate concealment of felony related to a 2016 data breach incident at the company. Read more
On October 7, 2022, the U.S. took the next step in achieving an EU adequacy decision (i.e. a decision from the European Commission that a territory or country offers levels of data protection that are essentially equivalent to that within the EU, enabling transfers of personal data to such location): President Biden signed an Executive Order that laid out the steps the United States will take to implement the U.S. commitments under the European Union-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (EU-U.S. DPF), which was announced by President Biden and EU Commission President von der Leyen in March 2022.
