In light of the evolving guidance regarding social distancing and other efforts to mitigate spread of the novel coronavirus and the disease it causes—COVID-19, CLA made the difficult but necessary decision to cancel all in-person CLA meetings, events and activities for March and April. The Committee on Appellate Courts promotes excellence in appellate practice and has members from across the state. The committee recently submitted comments to the Judicial Council on proposed revisions to the California Rules of Court, rules 8.851 (appointment of counsel in misdemeanor appeals) and 8.401(b) (access to juvenile case files on appeal).
