Hey there, SSF Section!

It’s February and the year is into full swing. As lawyers, we’ve paid our State Bar dues along with all the organizations that are meaningful to us. I want to make sure to say “Thank you” for including this Section on your list. That’s why we’re working hard to make sure we get you the recognition, resources, and support you need.

We are pleased to announce the inaugural 2019 Excellence Awards recipients:

• Norma J. Williams, Excellence in Practice (Los Angeles)
• Sheila-Marie Finkelstein, Excellence in Service (Newport Beach) 
• Summer C. Selleck, Excellence in Service (Walnut Creek) 

The honorees will be recognized at the Solo and Small Firm Summit on June 13-15, 2019 in Huntington Beach. The reception will be held on June 14, 2019. Thank you to CEB for generously gifting each honoree with 1 year access to an OnLaw Library of their choice.

We also have a new event rolling out on March 15, 2019 in Sacramento at the new California Lawyers Association offices. Our Education Chairs, Sabrina Green & Sarah Redparth, have worked tirelessly to create the “Solo Success Symposium” which will focus on the opening, managing, growing and tech know-how that SSF practitioners need to know. In person space is limited and live streaming will be available, so make sure to join us for this incredible program. For those in Southern California who’d like to see this program in person, don’t worry. We’ll be bringing it down south for you, too, in September.

Nominations are now open to join the Solo & Small Firm Executive Committee. Between now and March 1, 2019 the SSF will be accepting nominations (yes, you can self-nominate) to join us in advancing our mission. We’re looking for diverse go-getters who have a passion for volunteer board work, whether you’ve done it before or this will be your first board experience.
