Message from the Chair

Hello and welcome to April, 2023. 

Here is what is new with the Solo and Small Firm Section. The plan for a statewide “Night of Networking” is gaining momentum. We know the event will take place on October 12, 2023. This event is open to all CA lawyers – not just members of the CLA. We are also talking about having non lawyers attend so we have a true night of networking  – a night with both lawyers and resources for lawyers all at the same venue. As word of this event is spreading, we realize the benefit of opening it up to all other sections of the CLA. 

We are looking for new members to join the Executive Committee of the Solo And Small Firm Section. It is a wonderful opportunity to connect with lawyers across the state, write articles for our two publications, speak at the Solo And Small Firm Summit and/or the Annual Meeting. The deadline for accepting applications remains open at the present time. If you have any interest, contact me and I will send you an email so you can apply (I can also answer any questions you have about the commitment/responsibilities for becoming a member of the Executive Committee.

Remember, this year’s Solo Summit is taking place on June 15 and 16. No travel is required as this is a virtual summit. Programs have been submitted and the selection committee is now focused on getting the programming completed. 

As you may have recently read, one of the primary concerns for solo and small firm lawyers is working alone in isolation; this also creates a feeling of being disconnected from colleagues. As I mentioned last month, become involved in your legal community. Participation and collaboration will make each of us a better person and lawyer.
