A Modest Proposal: It’s Time for California to Have a Workers’ Compensation Code
ROBERT G. HEYWOOD
Oakland, California
A quick scan of the books on the law library shelves finds the Labor Code, Evidence Code, Insurance Code, Penal Code, Government Code, Code of Civil Procedure, and many, many more. What is not found is a code for workers’ compensation. The time has come to consolidate the various laws relating to workers’ compensation in their own volume: the Workers’ Compensation Code.
The workers’ compensation laws of California are scattered about in a mish-mash throughout numerous codes instead of being collected into an easier-to-use single source. LexisNexis publishes an excellent volume updated annually and used throughout the industry, but even with this research tool, the workers’ compensation laws are cumbersome and distinctly not user friendly.
