LETTER FROM THE CHAIR

2024 is already shaping up to be another busy year for the volunteers that make up the Trusts & Estates Section Executive Committee ("TEXCOM"). In addition to this edition of the Quarterly, TEXCOM members continue to publish new case alerts to keep you up to date on the latest appellate and Supreme Court cases in our area of practice and have reviewed some 2,700 bills introduced in the legislature this year. Of those bills, TEXCOM flagged approximately seventy as potentially relevant to our Section members, warranting a more detailed review. For many of those, TEXCOM was able to offer support and/or technical comments to help shape the new statutes impacting the trusts and estates practice area. This work is ongoing throughout the Spring and Summer every year. You can check out our summary of new laws from 2023 via our recent updates webinar.
If you have not yet enjoyed any of TEXCOM’s MCLE offerings in 2024, you can purchase titles on a variety of new topics at https://cla.inreachce.com. New MCLE offerings in 2024, include timely topics such as AI ethics, probate litigation ethics, Medi-Cal planning with no asset limits, and recent developments in estate and gift tax with IRS Program Manager of the Estate and Gift Tax Policy Division, Lisa Piehl. New titles are added monthly or more frequently, including specialty credits and many credits that qualify for legal specialization CLE. CLA also offers free CLE to members from time to time, so keep checking back. And check out the self-study articles in this edition which are always a time- and cost-effective way to complete your MCLE requirements.
