LETTER FROM THE CHAIR
Written by Kristen Caverly, Esq.*
If you are reading this Letter, you are already familiar with the Quarterly, but I wonder if you are familiar with all the resources created by the volunteers of the Trusts & Estates Executive Committee ("TEXCOM") that are available to the members of the California Lawyers Association, Trusts & Estates Section. For example, did you know that TEXCOM has hosted more than 14 webinars so far this year, including diverse topics of interest to trusts and estates practitioners like "Succession Planning for Lawyers – How to Stay in Control," "What Does Probate Code Section 15800 Really Mean…AB 1079 and the ‘Empty Chair’ Dilemma," and "All About CalABLE Accounts And Their Benefits for Disabled Clients"? These webinars are available on demand and new webinars are available almost every month at a very reasonable cost for fantastic CLE. Sit back on your couch with some popcorn and stay up to date while quickly and easily meeting your continuing education requirements. Most TEXCOM webinars also qualify for legal specialization credit with no additional fee.
Did you know that TEXCOM also provides free to Trusts & Estates Section members, right through your email, periodic case alerts and legislation alerts that keep you up to date with the click of your mouse? Our dedicated TEXCOM members and volunteers are watching for published decisions and have spent countless hours reviewing, commenting on, and tracking legislation important to our practice area so we can let you know about new cases and legislation impacting trusts and estates practitioners. If you check your CLA emails, you will not miss the most recent developments. The case alerts and legislation alerts are also available through CLA’s website.
If you have not listened in yet, TEXCOM hosts a podcast called "Trust Me!" In conversations with guests, we cover an eclectic mix of topics of interest to California trusts and estates lawyers, and others interested in the field. And, because we do not offer continuing legal education credit, we have more flexibility with our programming. 21,000 downloads and counting, including people in multiple foreign countries, make it an easy recommendation. The Podcast Team is composed of Anna Soliman, Ryka Farotte, Kimberly McGhee and Kevin Bryce Jackson, all members of TEXCOM. Check it out wherever you get your podcasts or at www.calawyers.org/section/trusts-and-estates/trust-me-podcast/.
