FROM THE CHAIR

By Mark S. Poochigian, Esq.*

I consider it a privilege to lead the very bright and dedicated members of the Executive Committee of the Trusts and Estates Section of the California Lawyers Association ("TEXCOM") for the upcoming year. TEXCOM is an enthusiastic, hardworking group, and it is a real honor to serve as TEXCOM’s Chair.

Among the first things one realizes after taking the reins as Chair of TEXCOM is that this is not an easy column to write. Fail to mention the contributions of TEXCOM colleagues and you have missed an opportunity to express gratitude to deserving people; write too much about the inner workings of TEXCOM and the column will be "inside baseball" that is not of general interest to readers; and spend too much time summarizing recent section events and you descend into unbelievably boring writing. I hope to avoid all of those pitfalls1 without neglecting any important topics.

TEXCOM’s very committed volunteers are its lifeblood, and a few of them should be highlighted here. In its yearly ritual, TEXCOM celebrated its annual "changing of the guard" at the California Lawyers Association Annual Meeting in Monterey on October 10-13, 2019. I would be remiss if I did not begin by expressing my gratitude to Yvonne A. Ascher, TEXCOM’s immediate past chair. Yvonne is a tough act to follow, marked by her boundless energy, creativity, and dedication to TEXCOM’s work. Of particular note is Yvonne’s amazing capacity to stay on top of the seemingly innumerable TEXCOM-related e-mails that filled her inbox.2 I am grateful to Yvonne for her leadership of TEXCOM over the past year, and for her friendship and support. As is the custom for our past chairs, Yvonne will continue her service on TEXCOM for the next three years. Thank you, Yvonne!
