Housing Justice Easements: A Tool to Combat the Housing Crisis
Jason Fernandes and Janelle Orsi
Jason Fernandes is a second-year law student at Stanford University. He interned at the Sustainable Economies Law Center last summer, where he worked on the Law Center’s inaugural housing justice easement. He has also been providing ongoing research support to the Law Center’s housing and policy teams.*
Janelle Orsi is founder of the Sustainable Economies Law Center, the organization that is developing and piloting the housing justice easement. The Law Center provides legal support to community members to develop innovative solutions to our converging economic and climate crises. Law Center clients include worker-owned cooperatives, community-owned solar cooperatives, urban farms, land trusts, and housing cooperatives. Janelle is also author of Practicing Law in the Sharing Economy (ABA Books 2012).*
