Wendy Patrick Honored as 2014 Public Lawyer of the Year

The Public Law Section honored Wendy Patrick, a Deputy District Attorney in the Office of the San Diego County District Attorney, as the 2014 Ronald M. George Public Lawyer of the Year at an award reception at the State Bar’s Annual Meeting in San Diego on September 12, 2014. Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye presented the award. The award is named after her predecessor on the California Supreme Court.

Patrick is a team leader in the Sex Crimes and Human Trafficking Division of the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office, where she prosecutes cases involving vice, human trafficking, child molestation and sexually violent predators. Patrick is recognized for her commitment to legal ethics. She chaired the California State Bar’s Standing Committee on Professional Responsibility and Conduct and the San Diego County Bar Association’s Legal Ethics Committee. She has written 25 MCLE Self-Study articles on ethics for the California Bar Journal and had her own ethics column in the San Diego Daily Transcript for more than a decade.

Patrick also serves the legal community in San Diego and California. She serves on the board of the California District Attorneys Association and co-chairs both its Sexually Violent Predator and Human Trafficking committees. She also serves on the executive committee of the State Bar’s Criminal Law Section. She has served as a board member and vice president of the San Diego County Bar Association and is a Master and Team Leader in the Louis M. Welsh Inn of Court, mentoring new attorneys and sharing her knowledge with colleagues.

Patrick received her PhD from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David and her Master of Divinity degree summa cum laude from Bethel Seminary San Diego where she was awarded the Excellence in Preaching Award and the Zondervan Biblical Languages Award. She is ordained to Gospel ministry through Converge Worldwide/Baptiste General Conference. She received her law degree from California Western School of Law, and her Bachelor’s degree in psychology with honors from the University of California Los Angeles.
