Public Records and Open Meetings Conference Set for May
The Public Law Section is sponsoring the 2014 California Public Records and Open Meetings Conference, to be held on May 30, 2014, at the University of Hastings School of Law. The program starts at 8:30 am and concludes with a networking reception at 5:00 pm. The program has been approved for 7.5 hours of MCLE credit of which 1.0 hour applies to Legal Ethics.
The program will focus on both the Brown Act and the Public Records Act. The Brown Act sessions include: Overview and Update of Open Meetings Law, Decorum and Control Issues in Meetings, Avoiding the Accidental Meeting, and Technology and Telecommunications. The sessions on the Public Record Act include: Overview and Update of Public Records Law, Handling Voluminous and Burdensome Requests, Public Email on Private Accounts and Production of Third Party Documents, Public Records Exemptions and Limitations and Ethical Issues in Open Government Law.
The luncheon speaker is Jeff Gottlieb, Staff Writer for the Los Angeles Times who will speak on "The City of Bell, Part II, Updates and Lessons Learned".
Registration to the program includes the MCLE, program materials, continental breakfast and lunch. Registration is $125 for Public Law Section members, $175 for non-section members (includes membership in the Public Law Section for 2014), and $100 for journalists and non-attorneys.
