Message from the Chair
By Bernadette S. Curry
Bernadette S. Curry is a Deputy County Counsel for Solano County and the Chair of the Public Law Section Executive Committee.
Greetings once again from the desk of the 2018-2019 Chair of the Public Law Section! I am amazed at how fast time as Chair is passing by though, I believe in part, it is because of how busy the Section has been. We, like so many in our state, were affected by the wildfires and were forced to reschedule our "Use of Force and Liability" Conference scheduled for November to January 24, 2019. My thanks go out to all those who put in the time and effort to put on such a successful event, a summary of which you will read about in this issue. Work is currently under way for our next conference, the Public Records & Open Meeting Conference, scheduled for May 31, 2019 at the University of San Francisco.
Meanwhile, we are currently soliciting nominations for the 2019 Ronald M. George Public Lawyer of the Year award, our way of honoring a public law practitioner who has provided outstanding service to the public. Renamed in 2008 in honor of now-retired Chief Justice Ronald M. George, the award will be given out during the CLA Annual Conference which is scheduled for October 10-12, 2019 in Monterey, CA. Nominations are due by May 1, 2019. For specific information, please go to our website at https://calawyers.org/Sections/Public-Law/Public-Lawyer-of-the-Year or email our Section Coordinator, Nikki Smith, at nikki.smith@calawyers.org.
