PUBLIC LAW SECTION HONORS DEAN ERWIN CHEMERINSKY WITH PUBLIC LAWYER OF THE YEAR AWARD

The Ronald M. George Public Lawyer of the Year (PLOY) award recognizes a public law practitioner who has provided outstanding public service, possesses an exemplary reputation in the legal community, and practices with the highest ethical standards. In 2008, the award was named in honor of retired Chief Justice Ronald M. George in recognition of his distinguished career in public service and longtime support of the Public Law Section (PLS). In 2022, the PLS selected Dean Erwin Chemerinsky as the recipient of the PLOY Award. Dean Chemerinsky has a long and revered history of public service and community service, both on a national scale and specifically to the PLS. Most recently, he led a well-attended webinar for the PLS entitled "The Constitutionality of COVI D Restrictions and Mandates." Previously, he has been PLS’s keynote speaker at our Law Enforcement Use of Force and Liability conferences, hosted and keynoted our Open Meeting and Public Records Act conferences, contributed articles to the Public Law Journal, participated in educational webinars, and hosted law school panels promoting legal careers in public service.
Dean Chemerinsky is a nationally renowned constitutional law scholar who has published 16 books and more than 200 law review articles. He is also a frequent contributor to editorials for the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Sacramento Bee, the ABA Journal, and the Daily Journal. As of July 1, 2017, he became the 13th Dean of Berkeley
