CHAIR’S MESSAGE
Written by Christine Wood
Chair
Christine N. Wood is the Director of Public Records Act Services and E-Discovery Counsel at Best Best & Krieger, LLP and the 2020-2021 Chair of the Public Law Section Executive Committee.
This month marks the end of my season as chair of the Public Law Section of the California Lawyers Association. I wish I could say it was a wonderfully memorable year full of activities and experiences with my colleagues, but I just can’t. Even as I write this message, our wonderful state faces a surge in COVID cases, record-breaking wildfires, and a gubernatorial recall effort. Nevertheless, in the face of such challenges, I am pleased to report that the Public Law Section remains relevant and necessary to the professional development of California’s public lawyers.
During this year, we persevered. We inspired a new generation of lawyers to investigate a career in public law through our law school outreach panels. We recognized and honored the work of seasoned lawyers through our annual awards programs. We recognized the writing talents of new lawyers and law students because we still believe that writing is an attorney’s currency. Furthermore, we continued to contribute to the business of the California Lawyers Association, including CLA launching a Racial Justice Committee (more on that later). So, while we didn’t have an opportunity to share a laugh, a hug, or a cup of coffee in person this year, we were able to advance the career we all love so much.
