Legislative Update

By Kenneth J. Price*

As you undoubtedly read in my last Legislative Update, the State Legislature and the Governor were very busy in 2014. While California was not completely immune to the national Republican sweep of 2014 because the Democrats lost their supermajorities in the Assembly and Senate, Democrats still firmly control the California State Legislature and fill all statewide offices. The time for elections is over (temporarily) and it’s time for legislators to roll up their collective sleeves and get to work in a new session.

The Governor unveiled his budget on January 10 and bills are just beginning to emerge in the Senate and the Assembly. I will provide highlights of the budget to you in my next update.
